What if evidence-based osteopathic care could transform neonatal health outcomes globally? 🌍
In this presentation at the 2nd WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit in New Delhi, Ana Paula Ferreira, Osteopath, shares the vision for the "Global Evidence-Based Neonatal Osteopathic Care Framework" — one of 21 winning projects selected from over 1,300 submissions to the WHO Health & Heritage Innovations Open Call.
In this TED-style talk, we explore how a highly effective, safe, and cost-effective treatment can change the reality of Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) around the world.
Key highlights from the presentation:
The Challenge: The emotional and financial toll of prolonged NICU stays for premature infants and their families.
The Solution: Gentle, skilled osteopathic care (just 20-30 minutes, twice a week) to support the premature baby's innate self-healing capacity.
The Results: Reducing hospital stays by an average of 3.9 days, saving over €2,000 per baby.
Clinical Impact: Improvements in physiological outcomes, such as reduced heart rate, increased oxygen saturation, and fewer gastrointestinal complications.
The Path Forward: The vital need to continue researching this vulnerable population to further expand and implement this care globally.
"Soft hands. Strong evidence. Global impact."
